172 billion rubles will be allocated for the repair of regional roads until 2023
The Russian government will allocate 172.3 billion rubles to the constituent entities of the Federation for the repair, reconstruction, and construction of regional highways in the period 2021-2023. The rules for the provision and distribution of funds were approved by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. Earlier this amount was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.
“Federal funding will allow the regions to create a modern and high-quality road infrastructure, as well as introduce intelligent transport systems. Such systems can automate traffic management processes and help reduce the number of road accidents. The issue was considered and approved at a meeting on December 24, ”the government's website says.
Improvement of the quality of regional roads in Russia is envisaged by the national project "Safe and high-quality highways".
In a separate order, Mishustin allocated the first billion rubles to connect the Western High-Speed Diameter (WHSD) to the Latitudinal High-Speed Line (SHSD) in St. Petersburg. It will provide direct communication between the eastern and southern districts of the northern capital, redirect transit traffic flows and reduce the load on the existing road infrastructure. The construction of the ShMSD will begin in 2021, and the launch of the movement is scheduled for 2024. In total, about 40 billion rubles will be invested in the project, including VAT.
