Small armored Ural has been patented in Russia
In Russia, a patent was issued for an industrial design of a promising armored truck with a 4x4 formula and a short wheelbase. This machine is called Typhoon-U-T and carries the Ural-53059 index; it was shown as a prototype back in 2018 at the Army forum in Kubinka outside Moscow. The truck chassis is designed for the installation of modular superstructures for various purposes - passenger, special, airborne, and so on.
Interestingly, the patent holder in the document stated the Ministry of Defense of Russia - this is logical since the development of the entire Typhoon family is carried out at the expense of targeted subsidies from the military department and by its special order.
The Typhoon-U line has been produced since 2015, but so far only in the form of vehicles with a 6x6 wheel arrangement. These are the most protected trucks in the history of the Russian army - they are able to withstand shelling from small arms with bullets of 14.5 mm caliber and 8 kg of explosives under the bottom. Currently, about two hundred Typhoons-U are used in our army.
Typhoon-U-T is equipped with a 312-horsepower YaMZ-53677-10 turbodiesel and a 9-speed YaMZ-239 manual transmission. Carrying capacity of the machine - 2000 kg, gross weight - 14,500 kg.
