AvtoVAZ has published the first promotional video for its latest novelty, the Lada Niva Travel SUV (a deeply modernized version of the Chevrolet Niva). The model has been produced at the Lada Zapad Togliatti enterprise (former JV GM-AvtoVAZ) since December 21 this year.
Among other things, the video shows the interior of the car - as Drome reported earlier, it completely reproduces the interior of the pre-styling car.
Technically, the new product differs from the pre-reform Niva only in its weight and size characteristics. The length, width, and height of the restyled car are 4099, 1804, and 1652 mm, respectively, that is, it is 43 mm longer and 4 mm wider than the current Niva, an increase due to the new nose and arch extensions. The wheelbase is the same - 2450 mm. The curb weight of the SUV varies from 1465 to 1515 kg, depending on the configuration, that is, the minimum is 20 kg less than that of the outgoing model.
The technically permissible total weight along the axles has also changed: the total load on the front should now not exceed 990 kg, on the rear - 1050 kg. The outgoing car has 1310 and 1210 kg, respectively.
The car will continue to be equipped with a good old 1.7-liter gasoline engine with 80 hp. and a torque of 127 Nm. The gearbox is a 5-speed "mechanics", the drive is permanently full, in the "razdatka" there is a reduction gear and a forced blocking of the center differential.
Lada Niva Travel sales will begin in February 2021.
The use of the word Travel in the title is associated with the intention to return the name of the Niva to the classic Lada 4x4, and it will also have a prefix in the name in the form of the word Legend.
Let's remind, Lada / Chevrolet Niva has been serially produced since November 2002. Its design is based on the VAZ-2123 project, which was first presented to the general public as the new Lada Niva in 1998. The previous major modernization was carried out in 2009, when the model received a body kit developed by the Bertone studio and a number of changes in the cabin.
In December 2019, AvtoVAZ bought out General Motors' share in the Togliatti CJSC JV GM-AvtoVAZ. Chevrolet Niva has been produced under the Lada brand since July this year.
