The American company CarMD, a major supplier of equipment for service stations, conducted a study on the reliability of automobile internal combustion engines in terms of brands and models. She has been making the list annually, starting in 2011, its full name is CarMD Vehicle Health Index.

Unlike other sources, CarMD did not take into account the views of owners, which can be subjective, but statistics on the number of cases of the engine malfunction indicator (Check Engine). Surprisingly, the Japanese Toyota did not even make it into the top ten most reliable brands.

Experts analyzed the unloading of service information for 19.5 million vehicles produced from 1996 to 2020 and in service in the United States. We took information about calls to the service station in the period from October 1, 2019 to September 30, 2020. The rating reflects the percentage of complaints due to a lit Check Engine per car. As a result, Mitsubishi, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen were the least likely to light up the check on the dashboard this year.
