Honda unveils "antique mask" for the car

Honda Motor has developed a "mask" for the car's cabin filter. It is capable of stopping over 99% of airborne viruses.

Testing has shown that Kurumask ("mask for the car") removes 99.8% of circulating virus droplets in the air in 15 minutes and 99.9% in 24 hours. During the test, the air conditioning system of the Honda N-BOX key car operated in the air recirculation mode.

Data separately for COVID-19 is not provided.

“We want drivers to feel safe and comfortable even when they keep their windows closed in cold weather,” said Takaharu Echigo, who is responsible for developing the filter.

Kurumask works like a regular mask, only it is put on a cabin filter. Thanks to microscopic spikes on its surface, it captures and damages viruses. The developers spied this mechanism in dragonflies: insects use similar spines to keep their wings clean.

While the "mask" is available for the N-BOX model, offered only in Japan, but soon the option will be offered for other machines.
